SOPRANOS
Marion Domhöver has been singing since she joined the children's choir in her home town near Cologne (Germany) back in her primary school days. When she couldn't find a suitable choir at University, she founded her own A Capella group with likeminded students, because she cannot live without music. Having lived in Singapore for a few years and having sung with various choirs here before, Marion joined Vox Camerata as a Soprano in early 2007 to reunite with her fellow Colibri Chamber Singers friends. She is also singing in the Gospel Choir of the German Congregation. When she is not singing or working, you can find Marion in the audience of various music or theatre productions or on the dance floor in a Salsa Club.
Melissa Gazder, 20, recently graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a Diploma in Accountancy. While in St Margaret's Secondary School she discovered her love for the Performing Arts. She was the President of the drama clubs in Secondary School and Poly. She developed her talent for singing and, in 2005, received rave reviews of her outstanding performance as Ms Stacy in the school musical, Anne of Green Gables.. After the performance, many encouraged her to pursue her passion for singing and she joined Vox Camerata in 2006.
Amelia Yeo first fell in love with choral music while singing with her secondary school choir. She is also a veteran bathroom singer, a vocalist in a currently nameless band and has been a default member (via her mother) of her church choir since she was 9. After an 8-year dearth of choral singing, Amelia joined Vox in Jan 2009 and is very happy to have made more new friends, who- like her- seem to be pathologically compelled to music-making. When not singing, Amelia moonlights as a private Basic French and EFL tutor.
Alicia first stumbled into choral singing in secondary school. In a bid to join an ECA, which did not require her to spend too much time in the sun, she joined the school choir and realised singing was something she could excel in. Over the course of her school years, she was involved in her school choirs, church choir and later sang with the SYC Ensemble Singers; she has performed at weddings, private functions involving the Ministers and business leaders in Singapore, and once a year would perform at informal concerts. She was introduced to Vox about two years back but was not able to commit her time fully as she was furthering her studies then. Now, equipped with two degrees and loads more time on her hands, she looks forward to performing with Vox and what she affectionately calls "The Voxxies" - the wonderful members of Vox - along with pursuing her other interests like diving. Her love of music, and more importantly performance, has led her to study singing part time and she hopes one day Singapore would have a platform for aspiring Sopranos like her to pursue a career in classical singing. |
ALTOS
Evonne Koh Currently works in the corporate environment after completing her bachelor degree in business a few years ago. Evonne recently discovered a latent interest in singing when she started singing in Vox Camerata. While still relatively new to singing, she has positive memories singing with her grade school choir and attending concerts. She draws her inspiration from an eclectic mix of genres including among others, A Capella, Italian opera and any symphonic works with choral accompaniment.
Ho Sin Huay Whining a tad too much about wanting to be active with a choral group despite harrowing experiences during her long-since-gone school days, a friend finally caved in and introduced Sin Huay to Vox Camerata two years ago. She has stuck with the group of endearingly eccentric maniacs ever since. Not content to suffer weekly fun-filled practices alone, she dragged her then-fiance and sister along, and to Vox they now, too, belong. Sin Huay sings with Vox Camerata as an alto.
Edith Ho, currently working full time in a financial institution joined Vox early 2007 under the influence of her sister, Sin Huay, to expand her horizons in different areas. Although very new to singing, she finds it a very enjoyable activity and thoroughly enjoys her choir sessions with Vox. Her musical background includes playing the piano as well as her performing experiences accumulated as a member of her school musical band.
Chia Suat Huang joined VOX Camerata as a soprano in May 2006, and she loves the unassuming and friendly environment. Having actively participating in choirs since the age of ten, she has performed in annual concerts held by Anglican High School Choir, Colibri Chamber Singers and the National University of Singapore Choir, of which she is currently the soprano sectional leader. She firmly believes that singing is quintessential in preserving her sanity. In her free time, she likes to explore other musical genres; her newfound love is swing! She is currently a second-year undergraduate at the National University of Singapore.
Evelyn began her musical training as a classical pianist, attaining a
diploma in Piano Performance. Back with Vox Camerata as an alto after
a 2 year break, she has participated in past Vox Camerata performances
as well as collaborations with other choirs such as the Singapore
Police Force choir. Evelyn pursues her interest in performing arts as
a freelance theatre practioner as well, starring in various
independent films and stage productions with Singapore Polytechnic and
Theatreworks. She is currently a piano teacher and has plans to pursue
tertiary studies in Music Therapy next year. |
TENORS
Lee Ser Wei male, 30, a computer engineer from local NTU, joined Vox for the love of singing, and has been in the choir since the latter half of 2005. He had participated in the last two public performances, both of which he loved. While his musical background is simple, from short stints in ECA bands of his early school days, such as the defunct Raffles Institution Military Band (now Symphonic), he appreciates the vast spectrum of genres that Vox exposes him to. While not making merry music, he is busily patching software in the mobile messaging gutters of the telecommunications industry for mBlox APAC, a mobile messaging MNC.
Bian Tan has been singing since school days, and sang with the Singapore Youth Choir before studying and working in the USA. He sang in various university, community, and church choirs in Tucson, Philadelphia, Florida, and San Francisco, and was fortunate to study voice as well. Most recently before leaving the USA, he was active in Sacred & Profane Chamber Chorus, (www.sacredprofane.org), San Francisco Chamber Singers (now known as Volti: www.voltisf.org), and Creative Voices (www.creativevoices.org). Since his return to Singapore, he has sung with the SYC Ensemble Singers and the Philharmonic Chamber Choir. A self-confessed nature-geek, Bian has a background in horticulture and botany and works for an international organization focused on plant conservation.
Jonathan learnt music from young dabbling with Yamaha Electone keyboards. After a long break to fulfil academic obligations, he ended up in his church choir in 2002. Since then he has enjoyed serving the church community through music, gaining valuable choral experience, and at times taking on the roles of conductor or organist. He was introduced to Vox through one of the members and has been with Vox since late 2008, actively tasting myriad styles of choral music. Outside Vox, Jonathan works as an engineer writing software for ST Electronics.
Henry Lim first discovered the joys of music while singing in his primary school choir. Having only studied Music Theory at Grade 1 and 2 through the instruction of his primary school music teacher, he rediscovered his musical roots when he joined the SAF MDC Choir as a voluntary member during his term of national service. He then continued his interest in music through his varsity days in NUS Kent Ridge Hall via his participation in KR Acappella, Choir and Inspire (Songwriting) groups. By pure coincidence, Henry discovered Vox Camerata during its inception in 2004 and has since been a captive of its musical spirit. He has performed for the choir's recitals in 2004 and 2005 as well as numerous other gigs. When he is not singing, he is a software engineer for Yahoo! Southeast-Asia |
| BASSES
Kelvin Leung joined Vox Camerata in February 2009 as a bass. He is currently in his second year in accountancy in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Although he has no prior choir experience, he has a huge passion for music and choral music. He feels that Vox provides him with valuable musical lessons and experience. Besides singing with Vox, he is also taking classical piano lessons and is involved in his own school choir. He hopes to explore more choral music and has high aspirations to being a professional musician.
From an early age, Keith found it difficult to keep his mouth shut whenever moved by a pleasing tune. Over the years, he has developed coping strategies to deal with this. He joined his secondary school choir, helping to alleviate hearing loss amongst his classmates. Today, Keith sings with Vox Camerata, and his cubicle at work has been spared the fate of being turned into a permanent karaoke booth. When he is not singing, Keith enjoys helping others develop their potential (intentionally or otherwise) in his chosen field of Education. Keith believes there is a secret music in the marrow of all life, and seeking this brings joy.
Benjamin Low joined Vox Camerata in October 2004 as a bass. He has had no prior singing experience and was a late bloomer to choral music. He has since came a long way, and has had the opportunity to perform with Vox in several productions since then. He enjoys the company of his choirmates and the process of learning new choral music. He hopes that music will always be a part of his life, as well as the friends he has met along the way. He believes that there are lessons in love and life in the harmonies and expression of music. He is generally passionate about the arts in general, and is also exploring his other interests in language, design and dance. He thinks that arts-based social communities help to make the world a better place. |
