‘I Wonder as I Wander’, arranged by John Rutter
Better known as the Appalachian carol, this song dates back to 1933 when John Jacob Niles came across a little girl singing it. Rutter’s arrangement relives the discovery as it starts with a lyrical melodic line sung by a Soprano solo which highlights the simplicity of the original carol. The rest of the choir joins in with each voice carrying an independent ethereal melody, creating a polyphonic texture.
