David Aditya Permana has performed as a concert pianist for classical solo works, chamber music, musical theatre and new compositions. He was awarded Best Graduate for Diploma in Music Performance at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (2010) as a piano major under Boris Kraljevic and obtained Master of Music in Performance at the Royal College of Music under tutelage of Edna Stern, whose linage of teaching was passed down from Haydn and Beethoven. He was appointed as the Music Director for Indonesia Arts Festival 2010 and 2013, where the latter gave him the opportunity to stage his original musical in Esplanade Theatre, “All’s Fair in Love and War” and he also staged his own musical “Satay and the City” in 2019, besides also having played the keyboard parts for West End productions such as “Billy Elliot” by Sir Elton John, “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein, “Sound of Music” by Rodgers, “Crazy for You” by Gershwin and “Into the Woods”, “A Little Night Music” by Stephen Sondheim. In 2015, his collaborative work with choreographer Max Chen Guohui “Incandescent Dream” was performed as part of “Passages” by Singapore Dance Theatre, and he composed for award-winning “Spring Strings” at the World Puppet Festival, Sarawak, conducting “Singapura the Musical” when Capitol Theatre re-opened in 2015 and most recently orchestrated and conducted “My Love is Blind”, a local production by Musical Theatre Live that includes visually-handicapped casts and musicians. As a scholar, he had published two essays and delivered one public lecture in London, exploring the piano music of Beethoven, Liszt and Dutilleux, and was a part-time lecturer in NAFA. He dedicates his time integrating music, fitness and spirituality in his works and has been involved in training school choirs and as a long-time member of the Saints Peter and Paul Choir.
