Programme Information:
Vox Camerata is proud to present the Choral Collective Residency Programme 2023/24, which will take the form of a series of workshops designed to develop the capacities of conductors seeking to work with a combined instrumental ensemble and choir. Working with the Vox Camerata Community Choir and high-calibre string instrumentalists led by Duo Tarenna violinist and Vox Camerata Programmes Manager Tan Tiag Yi, participants will be able to focus on an excerpt from a notable choir+string orchestra work from a different historical period in each workshop, allowing participants to gain exposure to different styles of choral and instrumental writing. Conducting feedback and mentorship will be provided by Vox Camerata Artistic Director Dr. Shahril Salleh. The dates and the repertoire for the workshops are as follows:

Participation Fees, Registration and Payment Information:
The programme consists of 3 seperate workshops. Each workshop includes 20 minutes of podium time. There will be a maximum of 8 participants per workshop.
The cost for participating a single workshop is $150. The bundle price for all 3 workshops is $300. Please note that competitive full and partial scholarships are available. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please indicate that as part of your application.
There is a $10 fee per workshop for people who wish to audit.
If you are interested to register for the workshops, please email Tan Tiag Yi, Programmes Manager, Vox Camerata at [email protected] with a CV detailing your previous musical and conducting experience (if any), along with a short video of about two minutes detailing your musical aspirations. It is not necessary for participants to have prior conducting experience, although this would be advantageous. Please also indicate which workshops you are interested in participating in. Upon successful review, you will receive an invoice from Vox Camerata detailing how you may pay your participation fee. Please note that your place is not confirmed until the participation fee is received by Vox Camerata in full. There will be no refunds following payment of the participation fee, unless the workshops are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances by Vox Camerata. The programme intake is kept deliberately small (max. 8) to maximise the podium time available for each participant.
Biographies
Tan Tiag Yi
Tan Tiag Yi is a violinist, composer and arts administrator based in Singapore. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Music with First Class Honours at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford in 2021, where he studied composition with Professor Martyn Harry and violin with Caroline Balding. Tiag Yi is a founding member of Duo Tarenna, a new violin-viola duo based in Singapore championing uncharted repertoire which was established in 2021. Thus far, Duo Tarenna has helped to premiere a total of four brand new Singaporean works in two well-attended concerts in 2022, with more planned for 2023 and beyond. While at university, Tiag Yi was awarded the St Anne’s Camerata Bursary and performed in termly concerts by St Anne’s Camerata under the direction of Dr. John Traill. As a passionate performer of contemporary music, Tiag Yi was fortunate to receive a bursary to attend the 2021 Dartington Summer Music School & Festival, where he participated in violin masterclasses with genre-crossing violinist Thomas Gould and chamber music coachings with members of the Leonore Piano Trio. As a composer, Tiag Yi was most recently awarded Special Commendation at the 2021 Henfrey Prize for Composition for his work Cross Sections, written for period woodwind quartet and premiered by leading period ensemble Boxwood & Brass in 2022. Some of his other interests include photography, reading and racket sports.
Dr. Shahril Salleh
Shahril Salleh (Dr.) is a social scientist researching the cultural formation of the arts in Singapore, with a focus on how agency is imagined and enacted within the confines of the state. He is passionate about advocating for cultural workers as well as championing community music-making in Singapore. Shahril is the founder and Artistic Director of Vox Camerata, and is an honorary lecturer and the School of Music at the University of Queensland.
