Performed live during Musica Intimae: The Plain of Dreams 夢の広野 (2018) at Victoria Concert Hall

From the hit 1996 Canadian musical Ragtime, this piece was specially arranged for Vox Camerata by its Artistic Director Shahril Salleh. Inspired by a 1975 novel by E. L. Doctorow, Ragtime opened on Broadway in 1998 and later in the same year won Best Original Score, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Orchestrations and Best Book of a Musical at the Tony Awards. The rousing “Make Them Hear You”, performed at the finale of the musical’s final act, reminds listeners that equality cannot be taken for granted and that the constant struggle for justice requires the voices and action of generations present and future.
