Performed live during Musica Intimae: The Plain of Dreams 夢の広野 (2018) at Victoria Concert Hall

Composed in 1961 with lyrics written by Shuntarō Tanikawa, Koi no Kakurembo, or “The Game of Love”, highlights the lighthearted and playful nature of young love, likening it to a game of hide and seek, known as “kakurembo” in Japanese. The energetic pace and tight melodies of the arrangement mirrors the youthful excitement of discovery while the layered harmonies and variations in timing echo the complex emotions that one might find themselves entangled in while playing the game of love.
