‘Thula Baba, Thula Sana’ arranged by Floris van Vugt
This African lullaby is sung by a mother to calm her child, promising that his father will return in the morning with a star illuminating his path home. At the same time, the mother depends on her child for strength. In this arrangement, Van Vugt evokes emotions of longing and hope in the text through a simple and delicate melody set to a homophonic texture which is livened by the syncopation in the bass line.
